About the Author

Alexandros M. Goudas is an Associate Professor of English at Delta College in Michigan. He has been teaching at Delta College for over eight years, but has also taught at Darton State College in southwest Georgia (now Albany State University) and Minnesota State University, Mankato. In addition to teaching all levels of remedial reading and writing courses, Alex has written a textbook for remedial and college composition. He is also very involved with education data analysis, writing articles, and speaking about developmental education. He was Developmental Education Coordinator at Delta College from 2012-2017, during which he implemented many successful and innovative interventions to improve outcomes for at-risk students.

In volume 36 of the Journal of Developmental Education (JDE), Alex was lead author on the article “Addressing Flawed Research in Developmental Education” (2012), a publication co-authored by Dr. Hunter R. Boylan. Because of this work, Alex was presented with the JDE Outstanding Article Award at the National Association for Developmental Education (NADE) 2014 Conference in Dallas, Texas.

Over the last few years, Alex has been the keynote speaker at several developmental education and state conferences: the Pennsylvania Association of Developmental Educators (PADE); the Ohio Association for Developmental Education (OADE); the Michigan Developmental Education Consortium (MDEC); the North Carolina Association for Developmental Education (NCADE); and the Indiana Association for Developmental Education (INADE). In the fall of 2017, he was keynote at a Minnesota State System conference on developmental education in Brainerd, MN. Alex was also keynote for the Arizona Association for Developmental Education (AADE) and the Georgia Association for Developmental Education (GADE) conferences in early 2018, and he will present keynote addresses at the Minnesota Association for Developmental Education (MNADE) conference and the National Learning Communities Conference (NLCC) in the fall of 2018. In addition to in-person presentations, he has conducted a webinar for the Texas Association for Developmental Education (CASP/TxCRLA) and is helping facilitate webinars and data for the Minnesota State System committee on multiple measures for placement. Alex also presents at both the NADE and MDEC conferences annually.

Alex was elected President of the MDEC for 2015-2016 and was re-elected for the 2017 year. In 2015, he was honored to receive the MDEC Educator of the Year Award.
