About the Author

Dr. Alexandros M. Goudas is Professor of English at Delta College in Michigan and author of Community College Data. He has been teaching at Delta College since 2009 but has also taught at Darton State College in southwest Georgia (now Albany State University) and Minnesota State University, Mankato. Before that, he was a licensed K–12 teacher in MN public and private schools. In addition to teaching all levels of remedial reading and writing courses and college composition at a community college, Alex has authored an OER English composition textbook. He is involved in analyzing studies, writing articles, and speaking about community college data, reforms, policy, and developmental education. He was Developmental Education Coordinator at Delta College from 2012–2017, during which he implemented many successful and innovative interventions to improve outcomes for at-risk students. He received his PhD in Educational Leadership from Central Michigan University, and his dissertation examined community college students, income, remedial status, first-year grade point average, and graduation rates.

In volume 36 of the Journal of Developmental Education (JDE), Alex was lead author on the article “Addressing Flawed Research in Developmental Education” (2012), a publication coauthored by Dr. Hunter R. Boylan. Because of this work, Alex was presented with the JDE Outstanding Article Award at the National Association for Developmental Education (NADE) 2014 Conference, now known as the National Organization for Student Success (NOSS).

Over the past decade, Alex has spoken as a keynote at numerous developmental education and NOSS state chapter conferences: Pennsylvania (PA-NOSS), Ohio (NOSS-OH), Michigan (NOSSMI; formerly MDEC), North Carolina (NCOSS), Indiana (INOSS), Arizona (AZ-NOSS), Georgia (GOSS), Minnesota (MNADE), Texas (CASP/TxCRLA), Iowa (IOSS), Nebraska (NDEC), Maryland (MACRA), for Monroe Community College in NY, and for the National Learning Communities Conference (NLCC) held in Bay City, MI. In 2017–2018, he helped with data for the Minnesota State System committee on multiple measures for placement. Alex has presented regularly at both the NOSS and NOSSMI conferences for nearly a decade, and he was a National Center for Developmental Education Research Associate until the center closed in 2021. Alex was elected President of the MDEC for 2015–2016, was re-elected for 2017–2018, and was co-president for the 2024 NOSSMI conference. He is also currently the NOSS Research Network Chair. In 2015, he was honored to receive the MDEC Educator of the Year Award, and in 2023, he received the Barstow/Frevel Award for Scholarly Achievement at Delta College. Alex just received the NOSS 2025 Hunter R. Boylan Award for Outstanding Research Conducted by a NOSS member.

Alex created Community College Data in 2016 to share evidence-based resources about public 2-year public college issues and to interpret postsecondary data contextually. The goal of the site is to help more at-risk students succeed by offering thoughtful, data-based, and comprehensive solutions to practitioners and policymakers.
